Sp-ahhhhhh!

After the wonderful break from the hectic work & school life that Christmas and New Years brings, it’s always a little jarring to jump right back into the hustle and bustle of your everyday life. We seem to go from zero to sixty in a few short days and I for one could definitely use a bit of personal r&r this winter (I’m sure you can too!). I cannot think of a better way to de-stress than a great at-home spa night with girlfriends, or even by yourself!

Here are three of the most scrumptious and nutritious at-home spa treatments that can be made with items you likely already have in the kitchen!

Soothing Aloe Vera & Honey Face Mask, Glamour

2 tbsp Cold Cream
2 tbsp Yougurt
Large squirt of honey
Large squirt of aloe vera
1/2 avocado

Blending a cold cream, yogurt, honey, aloe vera gel and avocado until smooth. Using a large spa brush like the 2 Inch Taklon Spa Brush, paint it on your face & let the mask dry for about 15 to 20 minutes and rinse. Voila! Your skin will feel refreshed and moisturized again.

Royal & Langnickel 2" Taklon Oval Spa Brush

Simple Body Scrub

2 tsp. olive oil
2 tsp. sweet almond oil
1/2 cup white cane sugar
1-3 drops lavender essential oil

Whisk together the olive oil, sweet almond oil (find it at health food stores), sugar and essential oil. You can store the scrub in a container with an airtight lid. It will last 2-3 weeks if kept away from water (water dissolves the sugar). Dish out a few dollops once or twice a week in the shower and scrub away!

Wake-up call: For a great early-morning burst of energy, skip the lavender and replace the 1/2 cup sugar with 1/4 cup sugar and 1/4 cup unused, finely-ground coffee grinds. Mmmm, now that’s what I call a caffeine jolt!

Apple Pie Spa Treatment Skin Polish, The Ritz-Carlton

2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 tablespoon fresh apple puree or apple sauce
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon

Mix all ingredients, stirring well. In the bath or shower, apply scrub to skin in a circular motion, using a washcloth or a natural sponge such as the Small Silk Sponge.

Pay special attention to rough spots like elbows, heels, and knees. Rinse off well and apply a body lotion for skin as soft as the day you were born!

I know I’ll be using these recipes this week! What are your favorite at-home spa treatments?

Try cmubucer. Cut into very small pieces. Apply to face with all the juice. Wash the affected area when dry.
